James O’Brien weighs in on Elon Musk's Grok - calling it “a gate that should never have been opened" following widespread concerns about the AI chatbot making non-consensual and intimate images.
He says it is “extraordinary” we are even debating whether billionaires should be allowed to profit from such technology.”
It comes as the UK plans to introduce a law which will make it illegal to create non-consensual intimate images like those currently being generated on the platform.
Speaking to Labour MPs on Monday, Sir Keir Starmer warned X could lose the "right to self regulate".
"If X cannot control Grok, we will," he said, adding the government would act quickly in response to the issue.
The government also plans to unveil legislation to make it illegal to supply online tools used to create such images.
