What Nadhim Zahawi's defection means for the future of the Tories
Aasmah Mir speaks to host of The News Agents podcast Lewis Goodall about the latest defection to Reform.
Former Tory Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi announced his defection in a live-streamed speech in which he hailed Nigel Farage as having 'gravitas' and 'respect'.
The former Tory MP went on to say the UK 'really needs' the Reform leader as the next PM.
Lewis Goodall thinks Zahawi's move indicates the 'trajectory' of British politics moving towards the right.
Analysing Zahawi's announcement, Goodall notes he is 'employing the tactics of the far-right', as he repeated the 'broken Britain' narrative.
Yet all might not be plain sailing as Lewis Goodall pulls up Zahawi's old tweets in which the former Tory MP calls Farage's comments 'offensive' and 'racist'.
Due to this, Goodall predicts an 'uneasy political alliance'.
