‘Nothing to suggest any crime has been committed’ in death of Cookstown man, police say
The PSNI says there is “nothing to suggest any crime has been committed” in the death of a young Cookstown man. Taylor Stewart, 21, went missing in the early hours of New Year’s Day, sparking a significant search and rescue operation in the Co Tyrone town.On Wednesday morning, six days after he had gone missing, a body was found in the Church Street area of the town near to where he had been last seen almost a week before.According to the PSNI, a post-mortem was carried out on Thursday but was unable to determine the cause of death.However, police confirmed they do not believe the death to be suspicious at this time.“Cause of death is undetermined following a post mortem and further tests will be required,” a spokesperson said. “Police enquiries into the circumstances of Taylor’s disappearance and death are ongoing however there is currently nothing to suggest any crime has been committed.”On Wednesday local representatives and community search and rescue organisations had sent condolences to the family of the young man and paid tribute to those from across the community who had contributed to the search.
