BBC detective show filmed 'Norfolk' scenes in Ireland

Inspector Lynley returned to BBC One this week after a 20-year hiatus.  The new series follows DI Lynley as he is assigned to the Three Counties Major Investigation Team, which investigates crimes throughout Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.  'Horsford Police Station' is where the show is based (Image: BBC) Despite being set in East Anglia, the entire series was filmed in Ireland which means some famous spots in Norfolk look rather different.  The base for the series is Horsford Police Station, which is depicted as a large policing hub - packed with officers in cars.  In reality, Horsford Police Station does not exist, with the nearest stations in Norwich. The characters are travelling to an island in 'Norfolk' (Image: BBC) The first episode is set in a nondescript coastal spot, with the characters travelling to an island for the crime scene of a murder.  The picturesque island is a far cry from the ones that Norfolk locals will recognise, including Scolt Head Island and Haddiscoe Island.  Norwich is also featured in the drama as it is where the morgue is based.  An image of the fictional Norwich City Morgue in the series (Image: BBC) But the modern building with greenery outside is one that people will not see in the city.  Viewers were quick to point out the lack of East Anglian accents with DI Lynley’s second in command, DS Barbara Havers, who is from Swaffham, sounding like she came from east London.  One fan of the show said: "Not a Norfolk or Suffolk twang in sight."
