Met Office issues yellow ice warning update across North West England
A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for the North West of England. It comes after a yellow weather warning for snow and ice was issued for the area.The Met Office has forecast ice patches developing overnight on Tuesday (January 6) into Wednesday (January 7) could lead to some disruption, particularly to travel. The alert comes into force from midnight tomorrow, and will last until 10am the same day.Large parts of the northern and southern England and Wales are also covered by the warning. Separate weather warnings have also been issued across Scotland and Northern Ireland.Issuing a forecast on the alert, the Met Office said: "Following a band of precipitation which clears southeast overnight, clear skies will develop for many areas on Tuesday night will lead to icy patches on untreated wet surfaces. This could lead to some minor disruption especially on Wednesday morning."The Met Office has anyone travelling to be aware of icy surfaces and patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths while the weather warning is in force.Issuing a UK-wide forecast, Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said: "The UK will continue to experience a range of winter weather hazards through this week, with low temperatures as well as snow showers and the risk of ice for many. A number of severe weather warnings have been issued and these are likely to be updated through the week so do keep up to date with the forecast."Alerts come into force after North West England was hit with cold conditions over the past days, with large parts of the region being hit with snow.
