A major mains burst is causing water outages for many Cork city homes and businesses this evening. The break occurred in Mayfield and is impacting hundreds of customers in Corrib Lawn, Ballinderry park, Shannon Lawn, Lagan Grove, Liffey Park, Glencree Crescent, Gweedore Avenue, Boyne Crescent, and surrounding areas. Uisce Éireann say "expert water service crews" have been dispatched and repairs are expected to be completed by 1pm tomorrow.Bulk tankers have brought in alternative water supplies for impacted customers. These will become available at 7pm this evening and can be accessed at Dunnes Stores Car Park, Ballyvolane. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.During repair works, customers on the Northside are expected to see an increase in discolouration issues as sediment is dislodged from old cast iron pipes.James Goulding, Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork City said: “We understand the inconvenience of this outage and we would like to assure customers that we are doing everything we can to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. Crews have been mobilised, and repair works are expected to complete tomorrow afternoon."Sign up here for our daily newsletter and get breaking news and top stories from Cork Beo direct to your inbox
