Pa. manufacturing plant to close in 2027; layoffs could begin next week

Prysmian Cables and Systems, a global cable solutions provider, plans to close its manufacturing facility in Schuylkill County in 2027.The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, informing the state that it is closing the manufacturing plant in 2027 at 1 Tamaqua Blvd, Schuylkill Haven, and 150 people will be laid off.Layoffs will begin on or around Jan. 1, 2026. The initial wave of layoffs will impact approximately 14 employees.The WARN Act is federal legislation that offers protection to workers, their families, and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of a covered business closing and a covered business mass layoff. The WARN notice was dated Oct. 31.Prysmian is a public company listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. The company operates in more than 50 countries.
