NHS risks being 'overwhelmed' if resident doctors' strike goes ahead amid 'super flu' surge
The health secretary has warned that soaring numbers of flu infections could "overwhelm" the NHS if a scheduled five-day strike by resident doctors is not called off.
Wes Streeting said a "particularly nasty" strain of flu - H3N2 - is currently circulating at a level which is "unprecedented for this time of year".
Demand for vaccines is soaring across the UK as the highly-infectious 'super flu' hospitalises people in record numbers, raising concerns over shortages of stock.
