The show, written by Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Joe Mantello, was Rudin’s return back to after stepping away from the industry in 2021 amid bullying allegations.  The play was well-reviewed, with THR’s David Rooney calling it “a singularly beautiful piece” with Metcalf in “blazing form” and Stock as a “revelation.”But the show’s attendance and grosses have not been able to keep up. The play hit its highest gross of $528,181 the week after opening but has seen its grosses falling since then. Last week, the play only filled 68 percent of seats, with a gross of $422,091. Rudin told The New York Times that he plans to continue producing and cited the tough economics as well as the competition on Broadway for the play’s early closing.  “Plenty of wonderful shows don’t work commercially for various reasons that sometimes were knowable and sometimes weren’t. I’m thrilled we did it; I love the play; I love the production. I would do it again,” he told the Times.  Though this show is ending early, Rudin has a number of other projects lined up, including the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman, starring Metcalf and Nathan Lane, starting in March and the Off-Broadway production of Wallace Shawn’s What We Did Before Our Moth Days.
