Cork woman who signed false GAA cheques worth almost €28,000 to escape conviction

Stock imageA Millstreet woman, who admitted to writing herself 54 cheques amounting to almost €28,000 while acting as juvenile secretary of a GAA club, will escape conviction if she abides by the terms of a probation bond over the coming year.The case of Maria Smyth (48), of Claraghtlea, Millstreet, was returned to Mallow District Court on Tuesday, after having been adjourned to allow time for the Probation Service to conduct a report. Ms Smyth faced three counts of theft, and one count of forgery.
