Greensboro, NC - Greensboro police released body camera footage Monday of a controversial arrest on Veasley Street that had circulated widely on social media, prompting public scrutiny and an internal review by the department.The Greensboro Police Department released over an hour of footage of the arrest across nine videos on their YouTube page.The videos show officers encountering 37-year-old Nathaniel Williams on November 3 on the 2000 block of Veasley Street. Police said officers were patrolling the area around 11 p.m. when they saw Williams sitting in the driver’s seat of a car in a parking lot.According to Greensboro police, officers spotted marijuana in Williams’ lap and ordered him to exit the vehicle. The department said Williams refused multiple lawful commands to get out. After several requests, officers removed him from the car and placed him in handcuffs.During the encounter, police said Williams managed to free one of his hands from the cuffs and assaulted an officer. A struggle followed and continued on the ground as Williams allegedly refused to allow officers to re-secure his arm by holding it beneath his body.Police said an officer then used “suprascapular strikes” — blows to the upper back and shoulder area — to force Williams to release his arm. The department said the arrest was made “without further incident.”The Greensboro City Council reviewed the footage at a closed session on Monday. Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter declined to comment about the footage, saying that her and other council members won't say anything about it until the investigation is completed.Williams faces the following charges, according to Greensboro police:* Two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer
* Felony destruction of evidence
* Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
* Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
* Misdemeanor maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance
