Edwina Governey will take over as Hibernia's CEO from the start of next year.
Brookfield-owned has announced that Edwina Governey will become chief executive officer.
She replaces Tom Edwards-Moss, who has been with Hibernia for over 11 years and played a central role following the takeover by in 2022.
In addition, Michael Griffith will become chief investment officer. Both appointments take effect from 1 January 2026.
Governey was appointed chief investment officer in 2019 and has been a major contributor to the execution of Hibernia’s investment strategy since joining in 2014, the company said. Following a handover period, Edwards-Moss will leave the business in early 2026.
A fund managed by Brookfield Asset Management acquired Hibernia Real Estate Group in mid-2022 via a €1.1B all-cash deal and delisted Hibernia from Euronext Dublin and the London Stock Exchange, with Hibernia dropping its REIT status at the same time.
As part of that transition, Edwards-Moss, previously CFO, became chief executive, while former CEO Kevin Nowlan stayed on as a senior adviser. The company declared it would continue to manage central Dublin office space and redevelop key sites, including the Clanwilliam Quarter and Harcourt Square.
Yet the timing proved challenging. As the takeover closed, the broader Irish economic backdrop weakened and the European Central Bank initiated what would prove a series of interest-rate increases, while values for office-led portfolios declined.
In late 2023, Brookfield refinanced a large portion of Hibernia’s office portfolio as part of a broader €1.9B office-sector refinancing push, and this autumn, the company also reiterated its environmental, social and corporate governance-led strategy and launched a climate transition plan for 2025-2030.
“I am thrilled to be appointed Chief Executive Officer and I look forward to leading the team. I am also very pleased Michael will be succeeding me as Chief Investment Officer; he has performed the role brilliantly during my maternity leave,” Governey said in a statement.
