Atletico Madrid have set their asking price for Manchester United to sign ex-Chelsea midfield Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window, according to reports.
United have made no secret of their desire to bolster their midfield options in the coming windows having prioritised improvements in attack and in goal over the summer.
Ruben Amorim’s side did consider a last-ditch move for Gallagher towards the end of the summer transfer window, but were informed that the 25-year-old would be staying put.
Despite that, the Red Devils may well revisit their interest in Gallagher when the window reopens in the New Year, with reports suggesting the Englishman is keen for more regular minutes to try and boost his World Cup hopes.
Gallagher moved to Atletico for £34million in the summer of 2024 after being frozen out by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, but has started just three games this season for Diego Simeone’s side.

The Spanish club are not said to be keen on sending Gallagher out on loan, but would be happy to cash in on the central midfielder for a cut-price fee, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: ‘I think there is a chance for Conor Gallagher to leave Atletico Madrid already in the January transfer window or eventually in the summer.

‘This will depend also on the formula of the deal. Manchester United were interested in Conor Gallagher as an opportunity in the final days of August but Atletico said no to a loan move and they don’t have that kind of intention.
‘I think if maybe a permanent transfer proposal arrives, that would be different. Maybe something around 30 million euros (£26m), sources say that this good be the way to get Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window.’
Romano added that other clubs in England, as well as teams in Italy, were also monitoring Gallagher’s situation ahead of the January window.

Speaking last month, the Atletico midfielder insisted he wants ‘more opportunities to be a starter’ but said he was still ‘very happy’ at the Spanish club.
‘I’m not satisfied,’ Gallagher told AS. ‘I don’t think anyone will be if they don’t play as much as they would like.
‘But I will continue to work very hard to, whenever I have the opportunity, help the team and hopefully more opportunities will come to be a starter.

‘I’m very happy here,’ the 25-year-old added. ‘My goal is to win titles with Atleti and I want to have a bigger role in the team.
‘And, as I said, I’m going to continue working to the maximum to play more minutes and be able to help the team.’
Elsewhere, United still have an interest in Carlos Baleba after their failed pursuit for the Brighton midfielder over the summer, while the club are also said to be ‘confident’ of completing a swoop for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is another name of interest, with reports suggesting the Portuguese midfielder could be available for only £44m.
