Breaking Down the Emotional Ending of ‘Wicked: For Good’

Wicked: For Good is finally here and with it comes the very end of Elphaba and Glinda's stories as they deal with the aftermath of Elphaba's decision to go against the Wizard. With all of Oz now against Elphaba and Glinda now the face of Oz, these two former BFFs have never been further apart. So does life bring them back together? Or does the future of Oz completely change their relationship...for good?Here's the ultimate break down of the finale of Wicked: For Good.So, a little recap...Some time has passed in Oz and Glinda has taken over as the Good Witch and Elphaba is now known as the Wicked Witch. With all of Oz now afraid and going after Elphaba, Glinda is now quite torn about what to do especially since she's enjoying the fame and popularity that comes with being on the Wizard's side. Then there's also Fiyero, who seems set on finding Elphaba. After breaking Glinda's heart (and wedding dreams) and running away with Elphaba, the two get separated again when Elphaba sees the iconic house drop on her sister, Nessa. With her now dead, Elphaba confronts Glinda who is heartbroken over the situation and is the very reason that Nessa is now dead. Upset and willing to do anything to take down the Wizard and get her sister's shoes back, Elphaba sets her sights on finally getting the last thing that her sister left behind before it's too late. Which brings us to...Giles Keyte//UniversalYes, Elphaba kidnaps Dorothy!Turns out the Yellow Brick Road is not so safe after all! Dorothy is taken by Elphaba who tries to get Nessa's shoes back. However, Glinda comes and finds her before she does something she regrets and notes that even if she does get them back, nothing will really change as everyone is still after her. Elphaba agrees with Glinda and notes that it's finally time to bring this all to a big end. After filling up a bucket of water, the two friends emotionally sing "For Good" as they say a final goodbye to each other. After hiding in a closet nearby, Glinda comes out to see that Elphaba has now seemingly melted after Dorothy threw the bucket of water on her, leaving behind only her iconic hat. What happens to Glinda?Glinda then decides to Grimmerie and finally do some real good as she set out to do originally. She tells the Wizard to finally leave Oz once and for all, even revealing to him that Elphaba is actually her daughter. Madame Morrible gets sent to jail, but at least she gets her choice of cages thanks to Glinda's goodness. Back at Munchkinland, Glinda restore's the animal's rights allowing them all to return to Oz and finishing up what Elphaba started!So Elphaba is really dead?!Back at the castle where we last saw Elphaba, Fiyero, now the iconic Scarecrow due to Elphaba's previous spell, knocks on a hidden cellar door which opens up to reveal a very much alive Elphaba. Turns out, it was all part of the plan to have the world think that she is dead. The two set off away from Oz, hand-in-hand, and Elphaba looks back at her old home and friend one last time. At the same time, Glinda looks out to all of Oz and the Grimmerie finally activates for her showing that goodness was the strongest power after all.Giles Keyte//UniversalAnd that's it?!Unfortunately, that's the end of our favorite witches' story.
