Firhad Hakim’s Fiery Attack | CAA–SIR Link Ignites Political Storm In Bengal

Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim has issued a sharp warning to the BJP and the Election Commission, accusing them of linking the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls with the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Hakim vowed to block any attempt to remove genuine voters, calling it a conspiracy against Bengal. The controversy echoes Bihar, where SIR led to deletion of 66 lakh names. Leaders like Priyanka Gandhi, M.K. Stalin, and the Samajwadi Party have joined the outcry, alleging disenfranchisement of the poor and minorities. The EC, however, insists the month-long SIR exercise—covering 51 crore voters across 12 States—is to ensure cleaner rolls, not exclusion.
