Urgent warning issued to homeowners as 13 circulating pumps recalled due to electrocution risk

The new update comes following the urgent recall issued earlier this month for Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps dated between 2017 and 2024(Image: CCPC/PA Wire )A major 'product safety warning' has been issued in relation to a key component of heating systems found in homes and businesses across Ireland over serious safety fears.The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) announced on Friday that 13 circulating pumps have been urgently recalled as they pose a serious risk of lethal electrocutionThis warning follows a CCPC product safety information notice issued earlier this month regarding a number of Tucson circulating pumps.The agency issued an "urgent safety alert" in relation to the 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems in Ireland. The affected products were Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps manufactured between 2017 and 2024.In an update issued on Friday, the CCPC said they have received reports of other circulating pumps that may have the same or similar electrical coupling as the one on affected Tucson pumps above, and therefore, may present the same risk of electrocution.Consumers and tradespeople are very vulnerable to the serious risk of electrocution from the affected pumps, according to the CCPC.In line with the precautionary principle and to avoid potential harm, the CCPC is carrying out this early intervention by making all traders and tradespeople aware of this potential risk.The warning relates to the following circulating pumps:AquaPro, Model: RS 25/6 EAAKatsu Tools, Model: Star 25/Embrass Peerless, Model: Eclipse CFA-25-50THS Thermostyle, Model: THS RS25/6 EAQTrident, Model: STAR 25/6EABoiler M8, Model: Boiler M8 RS25/6 EAZSuntask, Model: Star A PUM-STAR15/6ABritTherm, Model: P2 25/5Archergas, Model: Heating Standard 15-60/130IBO, Models: IBO NOVA 25-40 180 and the Beta 2Avansa, Model: Avansa 32/6/180ELowara, Models: Ecocirc and Ecocirc+Intertrade, Model: INTERTRADE 6 metre head circulation pump (Type R S25/6EAQ)"The CCPC has contacted the companies that produce these pumps to bring the reports to their attention," a spokesperson for the consumer safety watchdog said in a statement."Any company that becomes aware of a potential safety risk with their product is legally obligated to take immediate action."The CCPC is advising tradespeople to exercise caution when working on heating systems that use these circulating pumps.
