Arrest made after two cricketers 'inappropriately touched' during Women's World Cup
Fans of Australia show their support as players of Australia huddle on the field (Image: Matt Roberts-ICC/ICC via Getty Images)A suspect has been detained in India following an incident where two members of Australia's Women's Cricket World Cup squad were "inappropriately touched" whilst out on the street.Australia are set to face South Africa in their concluding group stage fixture at Indore's Holkar Stadium on Saturday.The team had previously taken on England at the same ground on Wednesday, securing a comprehensive win, with the incident occurring the day after.The two players were making their way from the team hotel to a nearby café on Thursday morning when a motorcyclist approached them."We can confirm two members of the Australian Women's Team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore," Cricket Australia said in a statement, reports the Mirror."The matter was reported by team security to police who are handling the matter."Australia swiftly alerted local authorities about the incident, with Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra subsequently confirming an arrest had taken place."An investigation is ongoing," she said.Another officer is quoted by local media as adding: "We acted promptly on the information provided and managed to trace the vehicle and arrest the person involved."Mirror Sport has contacted Indore Police to request further information. Extra security measures have reportedly been implemented at the tournament.Australia, who have been based in Indore in central India for a week, will depart the city following their match against South Africa, with their semi-final spot already secured.They are the strong favourites to clinch the tournament after a triumphant comeback to defeat England by six wickets on Wednesday. A solid 180-run partnership between captain Annabel Sutherland and Ash Gardner sealed that victory and preserved their undefeated streak at the tournament.Heading into their final group match against South Africa on Saturday, Australia have triumphed in five of their six matches and currently sit atop the leaderboard with 11 points.A journey to either Guwahati or Mumbai awaits in the semi-finals, depending on their opponents in the final four.Host nation India confirmed their semi-final berth with a win over New Zealand on Tuesday. This means they join reigning champions Australia, England and South Africa in the knock-out stages.
