Tensions rise between China and Philippines over disputed South China Sea | DW News
Tensions between China and the Philippines over the disputed South China Sea are increasing. The Chinese coast guard accuses a Philippine ship of ramming one of its vessels, which Manila denies. This comes after Chinese forces fired powerful water cannon at Philippine ships, allegedly causing material damage and injuring a crew member. The two nations have been at odds over control of the Scarborough Shoal since 2012, when Beijing's forces seized the area. In the latest twist, China declared the area a “nature reserve,” in a move the Philippine Government slams as illegal.
