Israel's military has confirmed that a long-feared ground operation to seize Gaza City has begun.
Images filmed across the border in Israel show multiple daytime explosions that follow a night of what Gaza residents have called relentless bombardment. Israeli forces have been operating on the outskirts of the city for weeks. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that a "significant" operation is underway. Palestinian media have reported that tanks have entered the city, where hundreds of thousands of people are believed to remain.
