After 12 Years, It's Time For This One Xbox Franchise To Make Its Epic Return On Switch 2

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, numerous games have been ported to it, particularly following the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase on July 31. Games like Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, Persona 3 Reload, EA Sports Madden NFL 26, Star Wars Outlaws, and even Apex Legends, the huge FPS multiplayer hero shooter by Respawn Entertainment, are receiving Switch 2 ports. After Apex Legends got announced for Switch 2, it just makes me wonder where Call of Duty is? Call of Duty has not been on a Nintendo console for 12 years, and with Xbox porting their games to as many platforms as they can (with tremendous results, topping the PlayStation sales charts), it just makes sense to bring over their biggest franchise to Switch 2. The Last Nintendo Call Of Duty Game Was 12 Years Ago Went Out On A Whimper, Not A Bang 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts was the last COD game to be released on a Nintendo console, specifically the Wii U. The Wii U had many fantastic games, but lacked real system sellers, and third-party support, especially, was criminally poor. Ghosts was the second COD game on the Wii U, following Black Ops 2, and it appears that low sales swayed Activision from releasing future CODs on the console. To put things in perspective, even 2014's Advanced Warfare and 2015's Black Ops 3 were released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Surely, a Wii U port could have been developed with the system's hardware power, but it wasn't meant to be. Plus, Call of Duty: Ghosts has to be either the worst or second-worst game in the series, making it sting even more that it was the last COD game on Nintendo platforms. The Time And Place Is Right For COD To Make Its Nintendo Return There's No Reason Not To Release Call Of Duty On Switch 2 Xbox has been making significant multiplatform moves over the last few years, releasing more of its games on PlayStation 5, resulting in impressive outcomes. On July 30, Microsoft announced its Q4 2025 financial results, and it was revealed by CEO Satya Nadella during the earnings call (as reported by The Verge) that Microsoft is now the top publisher for both Xbox and PlayStation. According to Alinea Analytics, Xbox Game Studios' Forza Horizon 5 is the best-selling PS5 game of 2025 so far, surpassing games like Monster Hunter Wilds and Assassin's Creed Shadows. That's a huge deal to be the top publisher on a competitor's platform, and I'm sure Xbox would love to release even more of their games to other places. From what we know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it will be released on older-gen consoles, including Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Why not release it on Switch 2, as well? If it can run on those older systems, it should be playable on the Switch 2. Xbox and Activision have discussed Call of Duty on Switch before, including a ten-year agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms back in February 2023, and even as recently as June 2025, Activision sent a statement to IGN saying, "We're committed to getting the franchise on Switch." Hopefully, Call of Duty arrives on Switch 2, sooner rather than later. Source: The Verge, Alinea Analytics, IGN
