Scimitar Toothed Cats Star In Images From The Return Of Apple TV+’s Prehistoric Planet
Check out first-look images from Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, which picks up where the Apple TV+ docuseries Prehistoric Planet season 2 left off, give or take a few million years and the planetwide extinction of the dinosaurs. The first season of Prehistoric Planet was released in 2022, with its followup hitting screens the following year. Executive produced by Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian) and Mike Gunton (Planet Earth III), the series pairs cutting-edge visual technology with the latest scientific research to present plausible life stories of long-extinct animals.

ScreenRant interviews Ben Lamm, co-founder and CEO of Colossal Biosciences, about the de-extinction of the dire wolf and what that means for us all.
ScreenRant is able to offer an exclusive look at five images from Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age which highlight a number of species that will be seen in the series. Rendered in 4K, the images show a woolly rhino, a glyptotherium, an African scimitar toothed cat, a rock-climbing sloth, and an American scimitar toothed cat. For information about how the looks and behaviors of the creatures in Prehistoric Planet are decided, check out this interview with Mike Gunton and Tim Walker tied to the show’s last season.
The images above are exciting confirmation that Prehistoric Planet is no longer on ice (metaphorically), but the creatures shown are far from the only ones that will be depicted. Viewers can expect to get their best look at woolly mammoths yet (until Colossal Biosciences de-extincts them, of course), and learn about snow sloths, and even dwarf elephants. The series will take audiences through tundras, deserts, grasslands, and permafrost, showing how creatures lived across vastly different biomes. Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age will also see the return of Prehistoric Planet composer Hans Zimmer, who wrote the theme for the series and has collaborated with Bleeding Fingers Music members Anže Rozman and Kara Talve on the show. Effects will be completed by Framestore, the VFX house that has brought some of the most thrilling moments from projects like Gravity and The Golden Compass to life. Not returning for Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age is Sir David Attenborough; Tom Hiddleston will take over narration duties in his place. Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age will also explore some of the most consequential time periods in the Ice Age in “The Big Freeze” and “The Big Melt”. Fittingly, the season premieres on Apple TV+ November 26, just in time for winter and snowfall in North America and much of the world. It’s an exciting return for one of the best Apple TV+ documentaries in the streamer’s impressive library.
