Dublin weather: Sun shines but big change on way as temperatures drop and rain moves in

The sun is shining on this Monday morning as the school holidays officially begin but there's a change on the horizon for Ireland's weather. After a blistering hot Sunday the sunshine is making way for clouds and rain - although temperatures will remain in the 20s - for now. There probably won't be as much of a dead heat however as winds come in from the south. Temperatures will dip significantly overnight, dropping to around 12C, and there will be a bit of rain and fog. This time the wind will come from the north. Met Eireann says: "Some brighter intervals this morning but becoming mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing by the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 21 to 23 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds, easing light westerly later. "The last of the rain will clear early tonight, becoming largely dry with isolated showers and with some fog patches developing. Lowest temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees with light, occasionally moderate northerly breezes." Come Tuesday there will be scattered showers on the way though they won't arrive until the afternoon. Temperatures will have dipped to about 19C and will go as low as 6C overnight. Met Eireann continued: "A mix of cloud and sunny spells in the morning of Tuesday as well scattered showers develop by the afternoon. Better sunny spells will develop in the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 or 18 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, north or northwest breezes. "Largely dry and clear with just isolated showers overnight, mainly in the south. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees in light northwesterly breezes." As for the rest of the week, we can expect more of the same. Scattered showers, with temperatures settling around the late teens and maxing out at 20C. By the end of the week the rain will push in though by Sunday things could begin to brighten up again. Here's what to expect: Wednesday Spells of sunshine with scattered showers, some of which may be heavy in the west and midlands during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 or 20 degrees in light to moderate westerly breezes. Mostly dry with clear skies overnight and with just isolated showers. More frequent showers will move into Atlantic coasts towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in mostly light west to southwesterly breezes. Thursday Sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy especially in the north. The showers will become more isolated in the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees generally in mostly moderate west or southwest winds, fresher and cooler for Atlantic areas. Friday Mostly cloudy and turning breezy with outbreaks of rain pushing in from the west. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
