Nightmare neighbour returns home to find locks changed after Sunday World exposé
Pictured this week looking sheepish near her flat in the Glencairn area of north Belfast, the 40-year-old — who once headbutted a cop and stabbed an ex — returned home to find the Housing Executive had changed her locks.Last week we revealed Reid had been making the lives of her new neighbours a misery for the last six months and there had been allegations she had assaulted one.Reid has vulnerable residents living in a block of flats in Glencairn terrified after a series of incidents which culminated in her being arrested for allegedly attacking and robbing an elderly neighbour.Danielle ReidResidents say Reid has made their lives a misery with her late-night parties and aggressive attitude when challenged. But after our story last week, neighbours say Reid appears to have piped down — though they suspect this might be a temporary calm before the storm. The Housing Executive refused to respond to our requests for comment after residents approached us complaining they had failed to protect vulnerable residents who had made them aware months ago about issues around Danielle. But despite not responding to our questions, they did at least finally force entry to her flat to check out the leak which had been caused by her apparently moving a washing machine from the kitchen to the living room at 3am.Residents had been asking them to do this for a week but no action was taken until the Sunday World contacted them to ask why.Housing Executive note left on the door of Miss Reid“Danielle returned one evening to discover the notice on her door about the Housing Executive forcing their way in while she was out,” said a source.“As it was the weekend she wouldn’t have been able to contact the local office. Instead she contacted the Housing Executive emergency contact number and demanded they come out and let her into her flat, as they had changed her locks.“She has since kept a suspiciously low presence, hardly making a peep or appearing outside.“She knows exactly how to play the game with her past experience, so this might just be the calm before another storm.Danielle Reid“I’m told the Housing Executive still hasn’t contacted the poor resident living in the flat below who had water coming through his ceiling in the middle of the night because of her.”In 2016 Reid was handed a suspended sentence after she slashed her partner with a kitchen knife in a drink-fuelled rampage. In 2021 we revealed how serial offender Reid was jailed for attacking her neighbour and for headbutting a police officer who came to arrest her and found her hiding under a bed.On that occasion she spent 18 weeks behind bars but sources in Glencairn say fed-up tenants in Block 3 at Forthriver Road are at their “wits’ end”.Residents are often too frightened to give statements to the police about her threats because they know she has a violent past and a serious drink and drug abuse problem. But they say the Northern Ireland Housing Executive has been made aware of the issues and failed to act.“These people have been complaining to the Housing Executive for the last six months when things seemed to really kick off,” said the concerned relative last week.“She was seen attacking the elderly neighbour by a contractor who was doing work on another flat. She had this poor man on the ground and was kicking him in the head. The contractor had to pull her off the poor man.”Police told the Sunday World last week they are investigating a recent assault at a property in north Belfast.Inspector Irwin said: “Reports were received on Friday, 21st March, that a wallet had been stolen and a man, aged in his 70s, assaulted in the foyer area of a flat complex in the Forthriver Road area.“Officers attended, and a 40-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.”
