Two Irish citizens charged over alleged roof repair scam in Australia

Stock imageTwo Irishmen have been charged over an alleged roof repair scam in rural Australia.Police in Victoria – a State in the south east of the country – said the two men are accused of carrying fraudulent building works across Yarra Ranges.It is claimed the men “approached older, more vulnerable members of the community in the Hallam, Kilsyth & Mooroolbark areas.”The men, who are 24 and 26-years-old and are described as Irish nationals, allegedly told victims their roofs were in need of repair after calling door-to-door.However, police claim the men would then get up on the roof and purposely break tiles.They would then charge the homeowners tens of thousands of dollars for “substandard, unfinished, or in some cases no work at all.”A police spokesman said the men were granted bail after being charged last Thursday."The men were arrested on the Thursday 10 April, and have since been charged with attempt to obtain property by deception, obtain property by deception and possessing the proceeds of crime.“The men were bailed to appear at a later court date.”
