Mum 'returning from Mother's Day outing with kids' among 3 killed in crashes
HEARTBREAKING tributes have poured in after three women tragically lost their lives on Irish roads this weekend.Three women were killed in two separate collisions in Cork and Waterford yesterday.Two women sadly died and two young children were seriously injured in a shocking two-car smash in Co Cork yesterday afternoon.And just hours before, a woman, who was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a three-car collision, lost her life in Moonameen, Co Waterford.The two women in the Cork crash, a driver in her 60s and a mum in her 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene just outside Mallow shortly before 4pm.The younger woman was travelling with two children, who were both rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.READ MORE IN NEWSOne of the kids suffered serious leg fractures in the collision. The lady in her 60s was on her own in her car.It’s believed both deceased are from the north Cork area.The two car collision occurred at the wide section of the N72, west of Cork Racecourse.It is believed the road was busy at the time due to Mother's Day traffic despite clear weather conditions.Gardai are not releasing names or details until all relatives have been contacted and notified.Officers closed off the road due to debris from the incident, and to allow for garda collision scene investigators to examine the section of road.Gardai in Mallow are appealing for witnesses to contact them.A spokesperson said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai."Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on (022) 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."THREE-CAR COLLISIONSeparately, the fatal three-car Waterford crash took place on the N25, in Moonameen at roughly 2.10pm.The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.The driver and passenger of the second car were conveyed to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.The man and woman, aged in their 50s, are believed to have suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.The female driver of the third car was conveyed by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.The driver, aged in her 60s, is also believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.A spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of the collision, involving cars, which occurred at approximately 2.10pm."The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place."Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward."Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 1.20pm and 2.20pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on (058) 48600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
