Ottawa mayoral candidates Alex Lawson, Jeff Leiper, Neil Saravanamuttoo and Mark Sutcliffe clashed over return-to-office mandates for municipal and federal public servants during a heated debate. Leiper accused Sutcliffe of supporting mandatory workplace returns that hurt affordability and transit commutes for public service workers. Defending the municipal record, the mayor denied lobbying the federal government and stated that human resources decisions rest with the city manager. Sutcliffe also said 85 per cent of city employees are frontline workers who worked in person throughout the pandemic.
