English football is facing a deepening financial crisis, with 94% of clubs operating at a loss and two-thirds unable to survive 90 days without financial support from their owners, according to the UK’s independent football regulator.

Regulator chair David Cogan has warned of structural problems within the game and called for stronger cost controls to protect clubs as vital community assets.
