Sutcliffe holds commanding lead in mayoral poll | CTV News Ottawa at Five for October 9, 2026

Exclusive new polling from Nanos Research shows Mark Sutcliffe holding a commanding lead in the race for mayor ahead of election day on Oct. 26. The poll finds Sutcliffe maintains strongholds in east, west and rural areas, while Leiper holds an advantage downtown; high pump prices are forcing some motorists to cancel their Thanksgiving holiday road trips as gas hovers above $1.78 per litre. Travellers and university students like Madisson Fonseca are opting for Via Rail train service instead to visit friends and family across Ontario and Quebec; and store employees at Canadian Tire in Barrhaven are hand-painting 1,000 pumpkins pink this month to support local breast cancer patients and their families. CTV's Stefan Keyes highlights how retail team members, along with their families and friends, are volunteering their time after hours to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
