The Conservatives have pledged £10bn over 10 years for a new 'Britannia Shield' air defence system, designed to protect Britain from drone and missile threats.
The plan has been compared to Israel’s Iron Dome and would aim to protect RAF bases, radar stations and cities across the UK.
The proposal has also reignited debate over defence spending and Britain's ability to respond to emerging threats.
