Ottawa police are investigating two downtown stabbings that left a 55-year-old woman and another man with life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested 42-year-old Joachim Lessard near the scene and charged him with two counts of attempted murder along with aggravated assault; Ottawa mayoral candidate Mark Sutcliffe has announced a 10-year, $10-billion infrastructure plan to address population growth and housing demands ahead of the upcoming municipal election. The city is currently facing an estimated $11-billion infrastructure funding gap for roads, transit, and flood mitigation over the next decade; and a local hospitality initiative has successfully recovered and redistributed more than 500,000 meals to residents experiencing severe food insecurity.
