Manchester United have unveiled their new third kit for the 2026-27 season which serves as an ode to Mancunian youth culture, local identity and community endeavors via a rather stylish jersey in ivory, burgundy and dark green.
The launch video was filmed at the famous Salford Lads and Girls Club, which has cropped up regularly in local folklore and pop culture with big bands such as The Hollies and The Smiths having performed there and/or posed for photos outside. It has also appeared in a number of British TV shows over the years, from "Shameless" to "Peaky Blinders."
The iconic youth club also provides the inspiration for the floral flourishes and patterns found woven into the new United third shirt. Bits of the architecture and artwork found within the building have been used to create a hand-drawn rose motif in much the same way as the symbolic flower of Lancashire has been used to decorate many of Manchester's cultural institutions.
The shirt has a cream-coloured base with deep maroon and green trim. The maroon is intended to reflect the red bricks that characterize a number of Manchester's historic buildings while the green is taken from the large wooden doors of the Salford Lads and Girls Club itself.
The full kit is then completed by matching ivory shorts and socks, both of which incorporate the same flashes of maroon and green to flesh out the set.
The various crests and sponsor logos are all aligned centrally and presented in minimalist fashion. The layout does have the slight air of a training top about it, rather than a match jersey, but we're sure United fans will take to it once they see Bruno Fernandes & Co. play in it on the road this season.
