Garda Car Rammed By Stolen Audi, Two Officers In Hospital
A Garda car rammed by a stolen Audi in Dublin flipped onto its roof and left two officers in hospital, in what has been described as a deeply traumatic incident, The Journal reports. The gardaí had been investigating a burglary and a car theft in the Santry area, and the collision happened during a related operation shortly before midnight on Tuesday.The stolen Audi exited the old N2 and collided with the patrol car, causing it to strike a concrete pillar before coming to rest on its roof roughly 200 metres from the point of impact. The occupants of the stolen car, believed to number up to five, fled on foot and evaded gardaí despite a pursuit and the assistance of air support. One of the gardaí in the patrol car said their "life flashed" before their eyes. The two officers involved were taken to hospital for treatment, Extra.ie reports.Garda Representative Association representative Detective Garda Mark Ferris said the incident highlighted the dangers gardaí face in doing their duty, and confirmed both officers have since been discharged:"I have spoken to both officers who have now been discharged from hospital and are recuperating from their injuries at home."Both gardaí, a man and a woman, managed to exit the overturned vehicle unaided before receiving medical assistance. No arrests had been made at the time of writing.
