Jalen Hurts is under a massive microscope this season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
A little over a year ago, Hurts and Philly were on top of the football world after winning Super Bowl LX, smashing the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 victory. Hurts greatly outplayed Patrick Mahomes with his arm and his legs, nobody had any answers for the tush push, and the Eagles looked set to perhaps become a dynasty.
But after the 2026 season, Hurts became the poster child for everything that didn’t go right with the Eagles. Now A.J. Brown is gone after reportedly being frustrated with his quarterback. Things got so bad last season that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was even asked about benching his star signal caller. And in April, ESPN released a damning report about just how bad things had gotten behind the scenes with the Eagles and their faith in Hurts as their franchise leader.
So it’s no surprise that one clip from Eagles practice showing Jalen Hurts throwing an interception was enough to make everyone lose their minds.
The post from the official Eagles account showed a nice play on the ball by Quinyon Mitchell. But what everyone else saw was the continued undermining of the franchise quarterback whose seat is growing hotter and hotter.
It’s one play from a practice session that makes no mention of Hurts or has any caption aimed at him. This really shouldn’t be a big deal, right? Wrong. Emmanuel Acho went as far as to suggest that the Eagles’ social media admin could lose their job for posting the video and seeing it go viral.
Naturally, he wasn’t alone. There were plenty of other voices on social media who just wanted to focus on the play as a warning signal for Hurts’ future with the team.
The topic was even addressed on ESPN’s Get Up with Dan Orlovsky pleading for some kind of sanity, calling the furor around the clip “outrageous.”
“There is not another quarterback around the NFL, that if they threw a pick in practice and it got posted on their social media, that it would get that many views and/or attention,” Orlovsky said.
Should the Eagles admin maybe been a little more careful considering all the negative attention on Jalen Hurts this season? Yea, probably! But is it also a totally unnecessary freakout considering that real football is still a month away? Definitely.
