Tom Hardy serves as one of the leads in a compelling R-rated gangster thriller, which is all set to with new episodes in the upcoming month. While Tom Hardy has always been careful about picking up his big and small screen roles, he has seemingly become even more selective in recent years. Apart from the Venom movies, he has only starred in a handful of movies and shows in the last decade.
Among all of these recent movies and shows, MobLand has risen in the ranks to become one of his most well-received projects. The show not only earned positive reviews from viewers and critics when it first premiered, but also performed well enough to be renewed for another season. As reports suggest, MobLand season 3 is also in the cards, but its final confirmation will depend on season 2's performance.
Before MobLand season 3 is confirmed, however, Tom Hardy's fans can look forward to the show's season 2, which is barely a month away from its premiere. MobLand season 2 premieres Friday, September 18 at 3:01 a.m. ET on Paramount+, following a weekly release schedule.
Thankfully, MobLand Season 2 Isn't The Last Time We'll See Tom Hardy As Harry Da Souza

Earlier this year, MobLand was all over the headlines for many controversial reasons. Reports revealed that Tom Hardy had been fired from the series and was not set to return for its third season. Hardy's friction and creative differences with showrunner Ronan Bennett and executive producer Jez Butterworth had reportedly escalated to a point where they had decided to continue the series without him.
Some reports even suggest that the show's creators were actively looking for someone to replace him.
Many viewers were letdown by this news because Tom Hardy was one of the biggest reasons why they were watching the series. As MobLand season 1's reviews suggest, it does not establish itself as a distinct crime drama and primarily riffs on some of the well-worn tropes and devices of the genre.
It is the performances of his cast, however, that truly elevate it above most other crime shows. Tom Hardy, in particular, was phenomenal as Harry Da Souza, making him the show's primary appeal.
Fortunately, new reports have revealed that MobLand season 2 may not be the end of the line for Tom Hardy's journey. Although MobLand has not been officially renewed for season 3, the behind-the-scenes differences that led to Hardy's exit are actively being resolved. While the show's future remains uncertain, Hardy's return in season 3 now seems more likely.
MobLand Is Great, But Doesn't Compare To Other Tom Hardy Crime Shows
MobLand truly thrives when it unfolds through Harry Da Souza's perspective, capturing how he is an intermediary caught between warring London cartels and rival enforcers. With Guy Ritchie helming some of its episodes and Ronan Bennett as its creator, MobLand also feels heavily stylistic and immersive with its portrayal of violence and sprawling criminal logistics.
However, despite having a lot going in its favor, MobLand does not do justice to Tom Hardy's incredible range as an actor. Arguably, other crime shows, like Peaky Blinders and Taboo, have done a far better job of giving Tom Hardy enough to put his acting forte on full display.
While Harry Da Souza is a fairly well-written character, he seems rather one-dimensional compared to Taboo's James Delaney and Peaky Blinders' Alfie Solomons. Both James and Alfie are far more eccentric and unpredictable, giving Hardy plenty of room to shift between menace and vulnerability. Even as overall shows, Taboo and Peaky Blinders are more compelling and novel with their storytelling than MobLand.
However, since Tom Hardy's run as Alfie and James in Peaky Blinders and Taboo, respectively, has long ended, it is hard not to look forward to what he will bring to the table with his portrayal of Harry in MobLand season 2 and beyond.
