Humanity’s missing angels return in ominous sci-fi RPG Angelic: Dark Symphony from former Bungie and Crytek devs

Humanity created them, feared them, fought them, and eventually watched them disappear into deep space. Two centuries later, the angels are coming home – and they appear to have brought something deeply unpleasant back with them. Awesome. Can’t wait.

Independent developer Angelicore Game Studios has unveiled Angelic: Dark Symphony, a cinematic dark science-fiction RPG currently in development for PC. The announcement is accompanied by a new in-engine teaser offering an early look at the game’s neo-human heroes, tactical turn-based combat, and distinctly unsettling vision of humanity’s future.

Led by developers with previous experience at Bungie and Crytek, Angelicore describes Dark Symphony as the narrative RPG at the heart of its wider Angelic universe.

The story begins with humanity’s attempt to overcome the physical limitations of living and working in space. Its solution was the creation of genetically engineered neo-humans, beings that ordinary people eventually came to call angels.

Unsurprisingly, humanity then proceeded to handle the situation about as badly as possible.

After corporations realised that neo-humans were superior to ordinary humans in almost every way, they attempted to control and exploit them. The angels eventually rebelled, defeated their creators during the devastating Interhuman Wars, and disappeared into the darkness beyond human-controlled space.

Now, after 200 years of silence, they are returning.

“Angelic began with a question: what happens if humanity is forced to adapt to space faster than evolution allows?” said Erkan Bayol, Founder and Game Director at Angelicore Game Studios. “Humanity’s answer was to create neo-humans, beings they would eventually call angels. But when the corporations in power recognized that neo-humans were superior to ordinary humans in almost every way, they sought to suppress and exploit them. From that moment, conflict became inevitable.”

Rather than following a single central character, Angelic: Dark Symphony will tell its story from the shifting perspectives of an ensemble cast. Each hero has their own motivations, relationships, personal conflicts, and place within the wider narrative.

“That philosophy also shaped the game itself,” Bayol explained. “Dark Symphony has no single protagonist surrounded by supporting characters. Players experience the story through different heroes as their journeys unfold in parallel, while taking full control of them in turn-based combat. You do not choose a single angel to carry the story. You experience it through all of them.”

The game’s first campaign takes place on Dreadheaven, a remote neo-human colony originally known as The Heaven. After the settlement suddenly falls silent, a group of heroes is sent into deep space to discover what happened.

The investigation places the group at the centre of a catastrophic series of events, forcing its characters to question their origins and their understanding of faith, morality, evolution, and reality itself. Angelicore is also teasing the presence of a dark force spreading through humanity’s fractured future, potentially connected to whatever the returning angels encountered during their time beyond known space.

There is currently no confirmed release window for Angelic: Dark Symphony. The game is in development for PC, although Angelicore says additional platforms are being considered.
