Maiora 42 Exuma Yacht Continues Rewriting the Rulebook

One year after her initial public reveal, hull number one of the Maiora 42 Exuma yacht series is entering outfitting. She’s further one year from showing how the build and design teams are challenging longstanding convention.

The joined hull and superstructure recently arrived at the Next Yacht Group’s headquarters in Viareggio, Italy. Although the 139-footer (42.5-meter) follows customary composite construction practices, this new Maiora flagship is turning tradition upside down, in several smart ways. An open, sheltered bow provides more alfresco enjoyment space out of the sun, for instance, plus adds square footage up one level. That additional usable space is entirely for leisure, like taking in the views on approach to an anchorage. They further connect to an indoor-outdoor lounge area just aft, with opening glass on all four sides. Maiora calls this entire level aboard the Maiora 42 Exuma yacht the Infinity Upper Deck. One notable difference between the initial renderings and the recently transferred structure is an extra hardtop-sheltered space forward.

According to Giorgio M. Cassetta, responsible for exterior styling, Maiora wanted to rethink the looks and layout to ensure owners and their families gained more valuable time together. They welcomed the reimagination of the upper deck, and had their own ideas, too. “The most significant innovation brought by the shipyard was in the layout,” he explains. “We moved the guest cabins to the main deck, dedicating the lower deck to services and leaving the upper deck and sundeck completely free and fully dedicated to the guests.”

The look and feel for the staterooms and the rest of the interior come from the fashion house Elie Saab. In fact, Maiora approached the company. As a result, the Maiora 42 Exuma yacht is its first superyacht. Selections from the Elie Saab Maison home-décor collection will be aboard this first hull, as will custom furnishings. So, too, will future series customers be able to work with the design firm. Of course, Italian marbles and other made-in-Italy materials are available.
