This very Irish habit is apparently the secret to a longer life

There is a thing that Irish people are VERY good at doing, and the common habit could be the secret to a longer life!

Without even knowing it, we are already apparently extending our lives simply through a daily habit that has become just as predictable for us as brushing our teeth.

What is this elixir of life? The humble cup of tea.

A study which asked over 498,043 adults aged 40 to 69 in the United Kingdom about their drinking habits found that those who drank two cups of tea a day were more likely to live longer.

The study found that people who drank two or more cups of tea a day had a 9 to 13 per cent lower risk of mortality, compared with those who did not drink tea.

Tea contains flavonoids, a type of plant compound that is known to help reduce the risk of illness and death in women. They also give tea its pigment.

The tea-drinking benefits weren’t affected by whether the person added milk or sugar to their tea, or what their preferred temperature was.

One thing the survey doesn’t make clear is what type of tea the ladies surveyed drank. I mean, are we talking Lyons or Barry’s here?

Most teas contain caffeine, which we know can be harmful if we consume too much of it, particularly while pregnant. The recommended daily amount of tea is three to four cups. (This does, however, depend on the individual.)
