Anahat Singh creates history, becomes World junior squash champion

Anahat Singh on Saturday became the first Indian to be crowned the World junior squash champion.

The 18-year-old from New Delhi defeated Egypt’s Ruqayya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in Ontario to win the title. She was the first Indian since Joshna Chinappa in 2005 to reach the final.

The World No. 20 had finished as the bronze medallist last year but went all the way this time around.

Anahat’s win also ended Egypt’s domination in the girls’ final as she becomes the first player not from Egypt to clinch the crown since 2011.
