2026 COTY 100: Best Gold

This week in the Coin of the Year’s Top 100 highlights, we’ll cover the Best Gold category. For this category, judges are asked to look at ten coins made from “gold, platinum, palladium, or another precious metal, which have all-around artistic appeal, both from an aesthetic and a commercial standpoint.” Judges are also to give consideration to unique themes.

Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt

This coin has a textured surface of a “scanned depiction of the black earth from the home of the coin designer’s great-grandfather.” The theme of the coin symbolizes “the truth that each of us has such a place somewhere in Latvia – worth its weight in gold, yet priceless. It is also a symbol of our readiness to defend our land. From the first centimeter to the last.”
