Mason, 27, already has a connection to the Island, with his dad Tony Mount previously managing Newport IOW.
During his tenure, he clinched the Dr Martens Southern League Eastern Division title, going 24 games unbeaten.
A photo from the CP archive shows Tony holding Mason as the team celebrate their victory in the 2000/01 season.
Mason used to travel with his mum Debbie on the hovercraft to watch home games at St George's Park, Newport.
