New rules are here for the forces of Destruction in this year’s free seasonal update. Let’s dig in and see what this means for your games.
Aqshy, the Realm of Fire, is the focus of this year’s General’s Handbook. Earlier this week, Games Workshop released free downloads with updated seasonal rules for the armies of Order, Chaos, and Death. Today, the forces of Destruction get their turn in the flames of the Bright Realm. The Scourge of Aqshy grants boons today to the Gloomspite Gitz, Ogor Mawtribes, Ironjawz, Kruleboyz, and Sons of Behemat. These seasonal benefits include alternate warscrolls and new enhancements, spell and prayer lores, and Artefacts of power.
Gloomspite Gitz
Aqshy is a parched realm, yet even in this desiccated land delectable fungi grow beneath the baleful gaze of the Bad Moon. The Fizzcap, for instance, is one of a new series of Special Knick-Knack enhancements for Gloomspite armies.
Turn just about any non-Hero unit in your army this special mushroom and turn them into a spellcaster as needed. OF course, if they’re not a practiced practitioner of the Moonclan’s fungal arts there’s a 2 in 3 chance they will drop dead. Sad! There are more grots where they came from, though.
Ogor Mawtribes
The Ogor Mawtribes have been getting a lot of attention lately. They’ll bring a slew of new units and abilities from their updated Battletome to Aqshy where they’re getting even more updates. The Huskard on Thundertusk is getting a new warscroll, and a host of new artefacts are available among the Plunder of the Mawtribes, as well as Well-Fed Beasts monstrous traits to choose from.
The Frostlord on Thundertusk has received a new warscroll, as well. His new Cold Fury ability enhances his Eruption of Fury ability in some surprising ways. Hit rolls of 6 on this attack now do a reliable 3 mortal damage instead of D3 while unmodified hits of 1 only inflict 1 mortal damage to him instead of D3. Nice!
Ironjawz
Already furious, the rage of the Ironjawz has been stoked to new heights in the blast-furnace of Aqshy. A new warscroll for the Brutes makes these battle line troops even more dangerous. Their new ability, You Call Dat a Punch? is a once per turn reaction they can use after being attacked. A flat +1 to hit and wound rolls lets you show your opponent who’s in charge.
Other seasonal upgrades are here for the Megaboss, who gets new rules alongside new Artefacts from DA Boss’s Hoard and Brutal Beasts monstrous traits. Some of these abilities play with the new fury rules, like Angry’ Un, allowing you to turn the brutal heat of Aqshy into a power source.
Kruleboyz
The Kruleboyz have benefited from the Realm of Fire’s influence in unexpcted ways. New Kunnin’ Creatures Monstrous Traits are available for the whole army as well as new Krule Artefacts. The Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof has retained his warscroll from last season in Ghyran, though!
Meanwhile, the Stab-grot, that faithful, cowardly, and vicious attache of Killabosses everywhere has gained a new ability. The higher the fury level the greater your chances that this frenzied grot will shiv and shank his way to victory, dishing out mortal wounds with aplomb.
Sons of Beheamt
King Brodd himself has learned some new tricks out there in the Great Parch. He benefits from a new spell lore in which the god(s?) of the mega-gargants look favorably upon his stomping and join in the fun. You’ll have the chance to not just dish out mortal wounds up to 18″ away but to half their Move characterstic for a full round if any are slain by the attack.
New scrolls are also out now for the Gatebreaker Mega-Gargant and Mancrusher Gargant, as well as new Cracked Heels enhancements. Moisturising is so important in the Realm of Flame
Maybe this winter I’ll revisit the Ravaged Coast campaign book and mix in all these new rules.
