Alphabet – “Sense”

London four-piece Alphabet — vocalist/guitarist Milo McNulty, vocalist/bassist Lena Pilshofer, guitarist Tom Sullivan, and drummer George Miles — have been routinely dropping singles since the fall of 2024. Their music is a brooding concoction of '80s gothic rock and early 2000s alt-rock, like if the Cure, TV on the Radio, and the Bravery grabbed a late-night drink. Today, they've dropped a new single, "Sense," co-produced by the band and Luke Farnall (Loyle Carner, Ezra Collective, PinkPantheress).

After a couple listens, "Sense" becomes propulsively soothing. There's a bit of grit to the guitars, but the braided vocals of McNulty and Pilshofer are crystalline, with a healthy dash of eyelinered theatricality. "Questions without an answer, fade in and fade out/ Your distance shows itself forevermore," he sings during the second verse.

"Lyrically, the song explores the shifting nature of emotions," McNulty said about the track. "The quiet battle with my inner monologue and the journey toward finding balance and peace among the chaos."
