TIL the popular Polynesian demigod Māui is said to have died pursuing immortality for mankind. He was supposed to enter the Goddess of Night between her thighs and emerge from the mouth when she was asleep, but was cut in two whilst entering as she was woken up by the laughter of his bird companion.
