AAA: Fourth of July travel expected to reach record highs
LANSING, Mich. (News 10) - The Fourth of July holiday period is expected to set new travel records this year, according to AAA.AAA projects nearly 72 million Americans will travel during the Independence Day holiday, a 3% increase from last year and the highest number on record.Despite higher gas prices, many travelers are sticking to their plans.“Typically, people have their plans laid out and they know what they’re going to do regardless of what gas prices are going to do,” said Aixa Diaz, a spokesperson for AAA. “What we saw over Memorial Day, people were complaining about it. They weren’t happy, but they were still pumping gas. They were still going to the gas station, filling up and hitting the road.”AAA defines the Fourth of July travel period as June 28 through July 6.In Michigan, more than 2.6 million residents are expected to travel during the holiday period.
