Meta Confirms New WhatsApp Rules for iPhones: Urgent Alert for Older Users
Meta has announced that WhatsApp’s minimum software requirement will change as of November 30, 2026. Starting from that day, the messaging app will only support devices running iOS 15.5 or newer. Thus, the current iOS 15.1 support will not apply. This makes an update necessary for older iOS users. The affected models will include iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, the first-generation iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus. However, the good news is that all these phones can be updated up to iOS 15.8.8. So, users of these models don’t need to rush to a newer model; instead, they can simply ensure they install the software update before the deadline. For models that can’t be updated to the required software versions, users have to switch to a newer iPhone. After the app withdraws support, users can still use the messaging platform on their devices. However, future updates, bug fixes, and security improvements will not be available. Over time, this can lead to problems with performance and reliability.
