Rossiter calls time as manager of Wexford hurlers

Keith Rossiter has stepped down as manager of the Wexford senior hurlers after three years at the helm. Rossiter's last game in charge was the defeat to Galway in the Leinster SHC on 24 May, a fourth loss in five games as the Yellowbellies for the second year running failed to advance to the All-Ireland series. It is understood that Rossiter conveyed his intention to step down to Wexford chairperson John Kenny in recent days. The 42-year-old, who won a provincial medal as a player in 2004, had early success as a coach, guiding the Slaneysiders to successive Leinster U-20 titles in 2022 and '23. Prior to that he was part of the senior set-up under Davy Fitzgerald, where the county ended a 15-year wait for provincial glory in 2019. Rossiter succeeded Darragh Egan as senior boss and did oversee a run to the All-Ireland quarter-finals in 2024. It was a period of much personnel change, which the now former boss outlined to RTÉ Sport after the side's loss to Offaly last month. "It's been heavy going, a lot of transition, blooding a lot of new lads in," Rossiter said, when reflecting on his reign. "There's frustration on everyone's behalf when you're trying to do that but you have to bear with them. The future is bright for Wexford as long as they keep young lads coming. "I have a young family at home, they probably miss daddy a bit. I've a wife that's very patient." "On behalf of all in Wexford GAA, I sincerely thank Keith for the time, energy and effort he has invested over so many years, as player, coach, and manager,' Wexford chairperson John Kenny said. "His commitment to Wexford cannot be doubted and he has made many personal sacrifices over so many years. He has represented Wexford with distinction and integrity both on and off the field, and I wish him and his family all the best for the future." Rossiter's departure follows that of Derek Lyng and Peter Queally, who in the last week left their respective posts in Kilkenny and Waterford.
