A 1-Of-765 McLaren Died In A Michigan Fire, And Bidders Smell A Deal
For this 765LT to return to the roads, it will need a new engine, and probably a new transmission, too

If it’s not rebuilt, parts from the 765LT Spider, like the brakes, could be sold.
The rear half of the limited-run McLaren has been destroyed by an inferno.
The 765LT is one of the craziest McLarens ever built, so it might be worth saving.
McLaren capped production of the 765LT Spider at 765 cars worldwide, and that scarcity is apparently enough to keep even a badly burned example off the scrap heap. Whoever buys this one has a mountain of work ahead before it turns a wheel again.
The rare British supercar is up for sale through Copart out of its facility in Portland, Michigan. Painted blue Finished in blue with exposed carbon fiber and orange accents, brake calipers included, it’s certainly quite the looker.

Sadly, a fire, likely originating in the engine bay, has torched the car’s entire rear end. While there’s no confirmation as to what triggered the inferno, the engine has no doubt been badly damaged, if not completely destroyed. The exhaust, which looks to be an aftermarket unit, looks to have held up quite well and might be salvageable. A bit of digging reveals the car burst into flames in Michigan in July 2023.

The fire didn’t just gut the 765LT’s rear, stripping it of body panels and taillights. The flames also pushed forward over the rear quarter panels, wrecking them and damaging the doors, and even the seat backs have melted.

Despite the damage to the car and its salvage title, bidding on it has already reached five figures. While it’s certainly possible someone might fancy their chances at rebuilding the car, doing so would be extraordinarily expensive, given that an entirely new engine and probably a new transmission would have to be sourced, along with all the other parts at the rear.
Perhaps the most likely reason someone would buy this is to sell off some of its parts. The front end appears unscathed, and the carbon-fiber bumper, headlights, and hood could each be sold for thousands of dollars. Additionally, the front wheels could be sold along with the pricey carbon-ceramic brake discs and those huge orange brake calipers.
