Joe Rogan tells Dana White to make immediate UFC change
Joe Rogan has revealed how he "can't stand" the current UFC show/win structure and has told the promotion's CEO, Dana White, exactly how to resolve the situation. The UFC has long come under scrutiny for its fighter pay and now Rogan has brought further attention to the topic by going into detail on exactly how those stepping into the octagon receive their money - or don't, depending on the outcome of the fight. It comes after British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn continued his recent war of words with White by calling out the UFC CEO over Tom Aspinall's UFC contract, describing his pay as "disgusting" and offering to pay the heavyweight champion at least three times more at Matchroom.Speaking on a recent episode of his "Powerful JRE" podcast alongside former MMA star Josh Thomson and veteran MMA referee "Big" John McCarthy, Rogan brought up the UFC's show/win payment structure, which ultimately sees fighters earn half of their purse for showing up, and the other half if they win.Depending on the fighter's level, this amount changes, though they still miss out on half their pay if they don't win, a ruling Rogan said he "can't stand"."If I make a bad call as a commentator, it's like, 'Oh, Joe's an idiot.' That doesn't mean anything. Nobody loses money," Rogan began. "Somebody could lose half their f---ing purse (if the judges make a mistake) - which I hate, by the way."I don't like the whole win bonus. Everyone's trying to win. Can't stand it. You're a prize fighter. You should get paid to compete, this is the number. Whether it's $200,000 or -- it shouldn't be dependent upon judges' decisions."It should be dependent upon, you showed up, you fought your f---ing ass off, you're trying to win. If you win, you're gonna make more money. No one's trying to lose. So, it's like, what are we doing?"Former UFC star Ronda Rousey has been one of the most vocal about the promotion's fighter pay, spending most of her time ahead of her long-awaited MMA return last month criticizing her former employers. The American criticized the UFC for inadequately compensating its fighters and also condemned the promotion for failing to deliver the best possible matchups, especially once Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Francis Ngannou were also recruited for MVP's first-ever MMA event."Welcome to the revolution Nate Diaz, Mike Perry. It's the FIGHTERS vs the establishment - and we're gunna win!" Rousey posted on social media. "PS [UFC Chief Business Officer] Hunter Campbell p----- off the wrong b----. I'm coming for your job motherf-----."As for Rogan, he has also stepped up his criticism of the UFC in recent times, especially ahead of this weekend's highly anticipated White House event, pleading with U.S. President Donald Trump to build a roof to help combat the intense outdoor conditions at the fight."Listen, build a f---ing roof," Rogan said. "Build a roof. Like, you've got all the money in the world, right? You're doing this; you wanna do this for f---ing America? It's 4,000 seats? Build a 4,000-seat arena. How big is it? Get a f---ing barndominium. Put it in there."
