Police are set to interview Gordon Brown as part of their probe into Peter Mandelson's links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, it has been claimed.Detectives at Scotland Yard will reportedly invite the former prime minister for an interview to discuss Lord Mandelson's work in his New Labour government.The disgraced peer was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, following a search of his properties in north London and Wiltshire.He has been accused of passing sensitive information to Epstein during his time as business secretary in Mr Brown's government between 2008 and 2010.The Metropolitan Police is said to be hoping interviews with those who were in government with Lord Mandelson will provide enough evidence to charge him.This is because detectives are facing delays in obtaining unredacted copies of the so-called 'Epstein files' published in the US, according to the Telegraph.The newspaper reported that the FBI has not responded to Scotland Yard's request for the files, which was made under an informal agreement on information-sharing.This could leave the UK Government having to pursue a bureaucratic 'mutual legal assistance' process to secure the documents, it added. Lord Mandelson has vowed to cooperate with the Met Police investigation and 'to clear his name'.He has denied the release of documents about Epstein in the US show he broke any laws or acted for personal gain and repeatedly said he regrets his friendship with Epstein.A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'We are not providing comment on our ongoing investigation.' A spokesman for Mr Brown said: 'Neither Mr Brown nor anyone on his behalf has been approached by the police in relation to an interview about Lord Mandelson.'
