Russell draws the parallel to how the British government once labelled the entire Irish nationalist movement as terrorism, a designation that led to innocent people being falsely imprisoned and an entire legitimate cause being criminalized. He argues that when a government starts using the word terrorism to describe the concerns of its own ordinary people about migration, food security, cultural identity and the decimation of Christianity, what you are witnessing is a government that has declared war on its own population.
